Big Shanty Festival

Kennesaw/Big Shanty
Festival will celebrate its 34th year as the City of Kennesaw
and surrounding areas turn out to celebrate the weekend of April 17 &
18, 2010. The entire downtown area will be jam packed with people
enjoying the best of today's fun-filled activities while at the same
time enjoying the rich heritage of Kennesaw and the Civil War era.
The Kennesaw/Big Shanty Festival
is host to one of the largest Arts & Crafts Shows in North Georgia.
Visitors and residents alike will be able to browse through over 200
booths of the Southeast's finest artisans featuring a wide variety of
beautiful and unusual items.
Over 50,000 people are expected
to attend the Festival this year. The heart of downtown Kennesaw and
the newly expanded 40,000 sq. ft. Southern Museum of Civil
War and Locomotive History, home of that awesome iron
horse, the “General”, serve as the central location of this annual
Festival.
This year’s Kennesaw/Big Shanty
Festival promises fabulous entertainment and fantastic foods –
Visitors and their families will enjoy Kennesaw’s multi-talented
performers, games for the kids and a variety of foods to please
everyone’s palate. Entertainment will include Kennesaw’s famous
Little General Cloggers; members of the
Kennesaw Dance Troupe; members of Great Gig Dance
Studio; as well as the ETO Demo Team. The
Big Shanty, Bullard and Frey Elementary School Choruses
will perform along with choirs from Kennesaw First Baptist
Church and Northstar Church.
To kick off the festivities –
A PARADE
– will start at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 17th. The Parade
features fabulous floats four high school bands, and proud marchers –
over 1,000 youngsters alone representing every sport association in
the area, plus the winners of Little Miss Cobb Beauty Pageant
along with the winners of the Master, Miss, and Mrs. Kennesaw
Pageant and Kennesaw Mountain and North Cobb School
Bands. The Parade will start at Adams Park and continue down
Main St. through downtown Kennesaw.
The Kennesaw/Big Shanty Festival
is held in downtown Kennesaw on both sides of Main Street (Highway
293) and is co-sponsored by the City of Kennesaw and the Kennesaw
Business Association (a non-profit organization). The hours of
operation are 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM on Saturday, April 17 and 12 Noon -
5:00 PM on Sunday, April 18.

Children ring in spring and celebrate Earth Day with the Simon Kidgits
Club at the free "Little Planet Helpers" event at Town Center at Cobb.
The Simon Kidgits Club hosts a fun, hand-on event designed to raise
eco-awareness through activities that bring kids and parents together.
At the event, kids can plant herb seedlings in pots they custom design.
They can also play the "Pitch In Recycling Game," a green twist on a
familiar basketball game that teaches kids how to recycle. Radio Disney
will also provide trivia tips and prize giveaways. |

The third annual Taste of West Cobb benefitting Hillgrove High School
Music Education Programs will be held at The Avenue West Cobb on
